
Dealing with Signal Noise in Your UV Systems
If you’ve got a few large printing presses running in one building, you know it’s a loud place. I don’t just mean the noise you can hear—I mean the electrical chaos happening behind the walls. High-pressure mercury lamps are picky. They need a steady hand from the ballast to keep that arc going. When your lamps aren’t built to handle all that electrical “noise,” things go south. You get flickering, lamps that burn out way too early, or the whole system just trips and shuts down right in the middle of a job.
Keeping the Light Steady
When we put together our 2026 UV series, we focused on one thing: keeping the arc isolated from the mess on the shop floor. Think about it. Every time a massive motor or a conveyor belt kicks in nearby, it sends a voltage spike through the lines. To stop that from messing with your print, we tweaked the electrode geometry and used high-purity quartz. It helps the plasma stay stable, even when the power grid is acting up. It’s not about chasing some impossible standard of perfection. It’s just about making sure your UV output doesn’t dip. We spent a lot of time matching the lamp’s impedance to the ballast so the lamp doesn’t “hear” the electrical chatter coming from other machines on the same circuit.
How it actually feels on the floor
You’ll really see the difference when you’re running a multi-unit setup. Most lamps start to struggle the moment three or four presses fire up at once. Ours just stay lit. That’s a huge relief when you’re watching a long web move through the press. You don’t have to worry about uncured patches or those annoying “slugs” ruining a production run. It just works.
The catch
Here’s the thing: you can’t just throw these into any old system. If you’re using a legacy setup with a leaking, outdated transformer, you aren’t going to see these benefits. To get that rock-solid stability, your power supply needs to be spec’d to match the lamp. And look, if your wiring is frayed or your grounding is a mess, no lamp in the world can fix that. Get your grounding sorted first. Wire it up right. Once the foundation is solid, our lamps will take care of the rest.
