The Power Stuff
Here is the deal with power density: it all comes down to gas pressure and how the electrodes are shaped. When you go for a high-wattage tube, you’re basically cranking up the photon flux. Why does that matter? Because it means you can speed up your conveyor belt. You get more product moving through the line without worrying that the cure rate is dropping. We keep the tube diameter and length on a very tight leash. We do this so you can just slide a new one in and keep moving. Just a heads-up: make sure your power supply matches the lamp’s impedance. If they aren’t in sync, you’re going to fry your electrodes way sooner than you should.
Dealing with the Heat
We use high-purity quartz glass for a simple reason: we don’t want the lamp envelope absorbing the UV. We want every bit of that radiation hitting your substrate. But there’s a catch. These lamps gethot. Like, really hot. You can’t just ignore the thermal load. If your cooling fans or water jackets aren’t up to the task, that quartz is going to stress and eventually crack. I’ve seen it happen too many times—engineers try to overclock the wattage to get more speed, but they forget to upgrade the heat sink. Don’t be that person.
